Kashmir: Two police personnel injured in militant attack in Srinagar

Srinagar/UNI: Two personnel of Jammu and Kashmir police were injured when militants attacked a naka party on the Nowgam bypass in Srinagar on Friday, when security forces are on high alert ahead of Independence Day celebrations tomorrow.

Official sources told UNI that two motorcycle born militants suddenly appeared from a bylane at Gulshan Nagar Nowgam bypass at 9:45 am and resorted to indiscriminate firing towards a joint naka party of police and Central Paramilitary Forces (CPMF).

Initial reports said that two police personnel were injured who were immediately rushed to nearby Ahmed’s hospital.

Traffic on the highway was suspended and all roads to main Nowgam, Gulshah Nagar, Ahmed Nagar and Chanapora were closed.

Security forces sealed about two km of area and launched a massive hunt to trace the attackers.

Further details are awaited, they said.
