Kejriwal spares VIPs, except himself from Delhi's odd-even formula for cars
"Only Delhi Chief Minister will not be exempt. I will not be exempted at all," Kejriwal said.
Those who violate the rule will be fined Rs. 2000.
The VIPs to be exempted from the rule are President, Vice President, Prime Minister, governors, the Chief Justice of India, Lok Sabha Speaker, Rajya Sabha Chairman, Union Ministers, Leaders of Opposition, chief ministers except for Delhi's, Supreme Court judges and Deputy Speaker.
Women with children below 12 and emergency vehicles will also be kept out of the rule as will be two-wheelers, vehicles with defence ministry number plates, pilot cars, those protected by the elite Special Protection Group and embassy cars with CD number plates.
During the 15-day trial, motorcycles and emergency vehicles including ambulance, PCR, fire tenders, will also not come under the ambit of road-rationing experiment.
"If people are not too inconvenienced, if public transport has enough capacity, we will implement it in stages. If people accept it and implement in the large scale, those who violate it will be fined," Kejriwal said.
Nearly 10 lakh private cars are expected to stay off Delhi roads every day once the odd-even formula is enforced with drastic reduction in traffic flow, expected to significantly reduce the high-level of pollution in the city.
