Kiran Bedi joins BJP, likely to contest Delhi elections
Bedi, who was earlier associated with Anna Hazare's anti corruption movement, is likely to be pitted against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal from New Delhi constituency in the Assembly elections.
Soon after joining the party, Bedi tweeted: "Delhi will get a stable, honest, hardworking, inclusive, sensitive, trusting, progressive, experienced governance. Thanku @PMOIndia+BJP leadership."
BJP President Amit Shah welcomed her to the party fold by offering her bouquets.
"I welcome Kiranji. With her joining, the party will be strengthened and the aspiration of the people of Delhi, going to Assembly polls, will be met," he said.
"She will definitely contest in the elections. Who will be the Chief Minister will be decided by the party," Shah said replying a question.
Lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his 'outstanding leadership', Bedi said it was he and other front ranking BJP leaders who had inspired her to join politics.
"I have never worked for owning a house or a car. I dedicated myself to the nation's service and I have 40 years of administrative experience, which now I want to dedicate to the people," she said.
"I want to give Delhi a strong, stable Government that will involve all sections of people in development work," Bedi said.
