Kolkata, Nov 18 (IBNS): Supporting the efforts for imposition of Uniform Civil Code and agitating over the triple talaq, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) women's cell- BJP Mahila Morcha- held a rally in Kolkata on Friday.

BJP state president Dilip Ghosh, party's Rajya Sabha MP Roopa Ganguly and actress-turned-BJP leader Locket Chatterjee were present at the rally here.

A large number of party supporters joined the event at Wellington Square in central part of the city.

Several leaders and lawmakers of state's ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), including Partha Chatterjee, Firhad Hakim, Idris Ali and Sultan Ahmed, supported the triple talaq system and shouted against the Centre's efforts to impose Uniform Civil Code earlier.

Meanwhile, All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), the highest decision-making body on Muslim personal laws, has been called for a three-day-long conclave, starting on Friday in Kolkata, to drum up support for their fight against the Modi-led Central government's bid to abolish triple talaq system.

The convention will be concluded through a mega rally on Sunday (Nov 20) in Kolkata's Park Circus Maidan, where the organizers are expecting a turnout of over 2 lakh people from Muslim community.
