Kolkata: Death toll in Majerhat bridge collapse reaches four as an injured person dies

Kolkata, Oct (IBNS): A 56-year-old Kolkata man, who was seriously injured in Majerhat rail-over-bridge (ROB) collapse and was undergoing treatment for the past several days, died on Thursday, taking the death toll in the accident to four, reports said on Friday.

Jamal Hanif, a resident of central Kolkata's Alimuddin Street, was pronounced dead in a city hospital on Thursday night, exactly one month after the mishap took place.

Earlier on Sep 4, portion of a rail-over-bridge collapsed at Majerhat area leaving a Behala youth dead on the spot and several others injured.

Days later, bodies of two Metro railway workers were recovered from the rubble.

Jamal Hanif, who had a business of medicines and medical equipment, was among the injured and sustaining severe wounds in waist and backbone, he underwent treatment at privately-run CMRI hospital at Ekbalpore area.

Weeks ago, the man was discharged from the hospital and his health condition suddenly deteriorated on Thursday.

His family members rushed him to a nearby hospital where the 56-year-old trader was pronounced dead.
