Kolkata: Girl harassed, shamed in local train by co-passengers over seat sharing

Kolkata, Jun 25 (IBNS): Few weeks after a couple was harassed in a metro station for allegedly standing too close and hugging each other in a train, a girl has now faced similar situation in a local train in Kolkata over the issue of seat sharing.

Anindita Roy, the victim, has partly filmed the incident and shared it on Facebook.

In a Facebook post, Anindita said she was on her way to Chandarnagar when the incident occurred.

Recalling the incident, the girl alleged that two men had abused her during a confrontation over seat sharing.

She said one of the men even shamed her for her attire.

Anindita was travelling with another person in the train.

On Apr 30, a young couple was reportedly harassed and assaulted by few of their co-passengers at Dum Dum metro station for allegedly standing too close and hugging each other in a metro train.

After the incident took place, students and youngsters staged demonstration at several metro stations in the city and put forward a memorandum to the metro authority demanding investigation into the incident and strict action against the attackers.

Amid massive protests, Kolkata Metro Railway had lodged a complaint at Sinthee Police Station submitted Dum Dum metro station's CCTV footage of that day before the city police.
