Kolkata, Mar 7 (UNI): Metro services in the city were disrupted this morning over a fire scare at Noapara metro station.

The incident happened when a down train from Noapara was approaching Dumdum at 8.25am. Sparks were notice din the third rail and the train was immediately stopped. The power was disconnected to prevent a fire, the Kolkata metro tweeted on its official handle.

Following this, the service was interrupted between Noapara and Girish Park stations.

Metro services south of Girish Park were normal.

“Power supply to the third rail was immediately stopped and passengers were evacuated from the train. They were then escorted to the platform at Dumdum by the Metro railway officials,” a Metro railway spokesperson said.

“Truncated services were maintained between Girish Park and Kavi Subhash stations during the disruption,” the spokesperson stated, adding that normal operations resumed at 09:49am after necessary measures were taken by the metro engineers.

Hundreds of inconvenienced passengers were seen waiting outside metro stations during the rush hour, frantically trying to hop on a public transport to reach their destination.

Metro officials are investigating the incident.
