Letter threatens Rahul Gandhi, warns of serial blasts

| @indiablooms | Nov 18, 2022, at 11:45 pm

Indore: The Madhya Pradesh Police commenced an investigation on Friday into a handwritten letter that threatens erstwhile Congress president Rahul Gandhi and former chief minister Kamal Nath besides warning that bomb blasts would rip through various locations in this city, which is the state’s commercial capital.

The grave development comes days before Mr Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra is scheduled to enter Madhya Pradesh from Maharashtra via Burhanpur district on November 23.

Traversing various districts, the Yatra will touch Indore and Ujjain as well. Mr Gandhi shall subsequently enter Rajasthan from Agar-Malwa district on December 5.

According to city Police Commissioner Harinarayan Chari Mishra, “We learnt that a local sweets trader received the communication. In view of the sensitivity of the matter, an inquiry has been initiated and details are also being gathered from the merchant in question.”

The issue assumed political hues with the Congress’ ex-state head Arun Yadav writing in social media, “Mr Gandhi’s Yatra is accomplishing the mission of cementing India’s unity, goodwill and fraternity but forces hell bent on destroying the country are attempting to vitiate the atmosphere. However, the Congress shall not experience trepidation.”

The letter – which has gone viral – also makes a reference to the anti-Sikh disturbances of 1984.
