New Delhi: The third phase of polling took place on Tuesday amid peaceful conditions, concluding with a voter turnout of 61.08 percent.

Among the 11 states, exercising their franchise in this phase, Assam, Goa, and West Bengal, saw the highest voter turnout percentages, reaching 75.01%, 74.22%, and 73.93% respectively.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav alleged instances of booth capturing by BJP workers in Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency.

He further accused them of detaining opposition party members in police stations.

Yadav, who cast his vote in Saifai (Etawah) for the Mainpuri constituency where his wife, Dimple Yadav, is contesting, reported incidents of vote tampering in certain areas.

In today's voting, 93 constituencies across 11 states and union territories — Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Dadar&Nagar Haveli and Daman&Diu, Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal — participateed in the third phase of the world's largest elections.

In Gujarat's Surat, BJP candidate Mukesh Dalal has already secured victory uncontested after all other nominations were either rejected or withdrawn.

The stakes are notably high for the ruling BJP, which clinched a significant majority of these seats, including all in Gujarat, Karnataka, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
