Lok Sabha polls: Counting of votes to be held today

New Delhi, May 23 (IBNS): Ending all suspense, the counting of votes of the Lok Sabha polls will be held on Thursday as the nation will witness who will administer it for the next five years.

As per major exit pol results, Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will storm to power. In case such a scenario emerges, then Narendra Modi will return for a second term as the Prime Minister of India.

The Lok Sabha polls were held in seven phases this time.

The last phase of polling was held on May 23.

In the seven phases, Indians voted to decide who will represent their constituencies in the 17th Lok Sabha.

Polling was held in 542 constituencies across India.

The key battle at the centre is between NDA and the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA).

From Samajwadi Party (SP)-Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP)-Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) alliance in Uttar Pradesh to the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal or the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha, the Bharatiya Janata Party is also trying fight against regional powers in different states.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs has alerted the State Chief Secretaries and Directors General of Police regarding possibility of eruption of violence in different parts of the country in connection with the counting of votes on Thursday.

"MHA has asked the States and UTs  to  maintain  law  & order, peace  and   public tranquility. States/ UTs have been further asked to take adequate measures for the security of strong rooms and venues  of counting of votes," read a statement issued by the MHA.

"This is in the wake of calls given and statements made  in various quarters for inciting violence and causing disruption on the day of counting of votes," it said.
