Losing hope for win, Congress leader Raj Babbar leaves counting centre after 20th round

Agra, May 23 (UNI) Disappointed over Congress trailing with huge margin after 20th round of counting in Fatehpur Sikri Lok Sabha seat, party Uttar Pradesh president Raj Babbar left the counting centre.

Babbar, party candidate from Fatehpur Sikri, left the arena to his counting agents.

When Babbar left the counting centre, he had received 64,136 votes while the alliance candidate Bhagwan Sharma received 57,719 votes against the BJP's Raj Kumar Chahar, who had got 2,43,284 votes.

When reporters questioned Babbar about the reason for leaving the counting centre, the UP Congress president tried to put up a brave face, saying, "When BJP trend is going on, what is the use of staying here."

He said though he was not successful in Fatehpur Sikri seat, it does not project that people of Agra have rejected him.

When asked about the poor performance of Congress in UP and in the country, the leader said it is not the appropriate time to comment on it.

Raj Babbar was eager to contest from Fatehpur Sikri seat though the party high command had earlier announced his name as the candidate from Moradabad seat. Babbar filed his nominations from Fatehpur Sikri on the last day.

Babbar had in 2009 contested from Fatehpur Sikri but he was defeated by BSP's Seema Upadhaya.

BSP candidate of the alliance Bhagwan Sharma alias Guddu Pandit too have left the counting centre as the BJP candidate has taken an unassailable lead.
