Low intensity blast rocks Bangalore, 2 injured

Bangalore, Dec 28 (IBNS): A low intensity blast occurred outside a restaurant at Bangalore city in Karnataka on Sunday evening which left two people, including a woman, injured, officials said.

The police said the blast occurred outside Coconut Grove restaurant at Church Street in the city.

The injured people were  identified as Bhavani  and her relative Karthik.

"At around 8:30 pm today there was a low intensity blast here at Church street. It occurred in front of the Coconut Grove resturant. One woman named Bhavani and her relative Karthik were injured in the blast. Bhavani was seriously injured int he blast, She is from Tamil Nadu," City DGP L Pachuau told reporters.

Speaking on the blast, Bangalore Police Commissioner M N Reddi said: "No body has been detained so far."

According to reports, the blast occurred from an Improvised Explosive Device.

The injured people were taken to a nearby hospital.

Karnataka CM S Siddaramaiah said he was shocked to hear about the blast.

"Shocked to hear about the #BangaloreBlast. I am in touch with @CPBlr and other Senior officers reg investigation," he tweeted.

"#BangaloreBlast I am told that the Injured are being treated at the nearest hospital," the Chief Minister said.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said he has spoken to the Karnataka CM and assured him that the Centre is ready to 'provide all help' on the issue.

Singh tweeted: "Spoke to Karnataka CM Shri S Siddaramaiah regarding the Bangalore blasts. He apprised me of the situation. Centre ready to provide all help."

Former Bangalore Chief Minister Sadananda Gowda visited the site of the blast.

Ahead of his visit, he tweeted: "Very unfortunate incident. Visiting church street bomb blast site now. I request fellow Bengalurian's not to Panic. We r with u."

The bomb squad and a forensics team have rushed to the spot of the blast.
