LS polls: BJP may drop Shatrughan Sinha as LS candidate

New Delhi, Mar 17 (IBNS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may drop actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha as the Lok Sabha candidate for Bihar's Patna Sahib constituency and give the ticket to Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad instead, media reports said.

The decision might be taken in the wake of Sinha's sarcastic attacks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over various issues, NDTV reported quoting sources.

Sinha is likely to contest the election as an independent candidate, backed by the Congress-RJD Grand Alliance.

The BJP is expected to release its first list of candidates soon.

The party led by PM Modi discussed the candidates for the upcoming polls in a meeting that went on till late on Saturday.

Ravi Shankar Prasad is currently a Rajya Sabha member from Bihar.

Shatrughan Sinha, who won the Lok Sabha polls in 2014 on a BJP ticket, had a difference with the party leadership after he was not given a berth in the cabinet.

Since then Sinha has often publicly criticized the party leadership and the Prime Minister too.

The Lok Sabha elections will be held from April 11 to May 19.

Polling in Bihar will be conducted in all the seven phases.
