Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has condoled the death of the journalist in the incident.

District SP Prashant Khare told Hindustan Times: "We are investigating the matter. The CCTV footages have been accessed. Police are also interrogating eye-witnesses. I can’t say right now whether it was an accident or murder. This will be clear after investigation.”

Bhind Press club president Sathyanarayan Sharma told The Times of India that Sharma’s death was highly suspicious.

"He was a brave journalist and had filed stories against mining mafias. He was facing threat from a police officer whom he had exposed a few months ago and had submitted a complaint to the SP citing threat to his life. Fact that the dumper was empty also give rise to suspicion,” Sharma told the newspaper.
