Madras High Court asks TN Govt to give details of ailing Jayalalithaa's health

Chennai, Oct 4 (IBNS) : Responding to a petition, the Madras High Court on Tuesday asked the Tamil Nadu Government to give details on Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's health.

According to reports, the Government lawyer has been asked to submit the information on Wednesday.

The court's directive came after a petitioner asked for a Government statement amid speculations Jayalalithaa, undergoing treatment in a hospital, is in a serious condition and her party, the ruling AIADMK is trying to keep it  secret.

Jayalalithaa was hospitalized on September 22 with fever and dehydration.

Her party AIADMK has always stoutly denied reports that she is critically ill, but rumours ran high because of lack of regular information or even medical bulletins, which are normally issued every day in the event of a VVIP like her undergoing treatment in hospital.

Opposition leader M Karunanidhi and few other political personalities demanded that the Chief Minister's present photograph be published to shoot down the growing rumours.

However, the AIADMK on Sunday said  that a UK specialist was flown in to supervise her recovery.

The party also said as Jayalalithaa is in hospital, a team of six officials and aides are managing the state administration for now.

The team includes four private secretaries, the Chief Secretary and Sheela Balakrishnan, the official adviser to the Chief Minister and long-time aide.
