Maharashtra: Congress politician from Bhiwandi town murdered

Mumbai, Feb 15 (IBNS): A Congress politician from Bhiwandi in Maharashtra succumbed to his injuries after he was allegedly shot at, according to media reports on Wednesday.

The sequence of events were captured by a security camera.

Politician Manoj Mhatre was shot at by two assailants when he was entering his home around 9.30pm on Tuesday.

Footage from the security camera revealed that two men shot him from behind and then attacked him more than 10 times with a machete,

Mhatre, 52, was taken to the hospital, where he died.

The footage revealed two other residents of the building saw the men attacking Mhatre, media reported.

The men were seen leaving the house, located on a busy street, reported NDTV.

Police have reportedly detained three men but have shared no details.

Mhatre was a member of the Bhiwandi Municipal Corporation.
