Maharashtra crosses 30,000 coronavirus cases, Mumbai remains worst hit

Mumbai/IBNS: With the addition of 1606 fresh COVID-19 cases on Saturday, Maharashtra crossed the 30,000-mark in respect to the contagion spread in the state, government data said.

Maharashtra remains the worst hit-state in the country with 67 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

It's capital city-Mumbai-also witnessed the worst increase in the number of cases with a jump of 884 new infections. The country's financial capital presently has 18,555 cases alone.

Mumbai reported 41 deaths on Saturday taking the total fatality toll in the city to 696.

According to the Maharashtra government, among those who died, 26 were male, 15 females. The statement claimed that 24 deaths were due to comorbidities. Two were below the age of 40; 27 were above 60.

Seven deaths were reported from Pune and Thane each on Saturday. Aurangabad registered five deaths on the same day.

While 524 patients were discharged on Saturday, there are 22,479 active cases in Maharashtra as of now.

This comes even as the nationwide lockdown continued in three phases and is scheduled to end on Sunday.

Meanwhile, India presently has over 90,000 coronavirus cases including 2871 deaths.
