Maharashtra govt may suspend train and flight services from Delhi after jump in Covid-19 cases in capital
Mumbai/IBNS: Maharashtra government is mulling temporary suspension of trains and flights from Delhi in view of the spike in coronavirus cases in the national capital, said media reports.
A final decision in this regard is yet to be taken, Maharashtra chief secretary Sanjay Kumar said, adding that the sharp rise in coronavirus cases in Delhi was discussed by a meeting convened by him recently, said an HT report.
The Maharashtra government is concerned about the entry of people from Delhi and other cities and states with high infection rates and deliberating measures to curb the infection spread, it said.
Kumar said the state government is constantly monitoring the situation in the wake of jump in coronavirus cases in Delhi and will take precautionary measures to ensure Maharashtra is not affected.
Though only a few trains and planes are operating between Maharashtra and Delhi, a decision to either curtail them or suspend them completely will be taken in the due course of time, he added.
According to the report, government officials said that a decision on halting flight services between Delhi and Nagpur will also have to be taken.
The final decision on measures to prevent the spread of infection in Maharashtra from other states with high infection rates will be taken in a meeting with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
