Maharashtra will have BJP govt: Amit Shah

| | Oct 19, 2014, at 09:58 pm
Mumbai/New Delhi, Oct 19 (IBNS): After the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday emerged as the single largest party in Maharashtra, its president Amit Shah on Sunday said the party will form government in the state and a BJP Chief Minister will head it.
"The Modi wave has not waned you can see in the polls, it is a tsunami," said Shah and added that they would form government as the single largest party.

Amid support the government by former Congress ally NCP, Shah said BJP on its own had never severed ties with Shiv Sena and the alliance broke up over just few seats while BJP has emerged winner in more seats than what Sena wanted to concede it.

BJP is falling short around 22 seats to pass the half-way mark of 144 seats in the 288 member assembly.

On NCP support, Shah said NCP has only expressed its intention to support BJP unconditionally from outside as the largest party and in democracy it is natural for BJP to form government.

"They have not expressed any desire to be part of the government," said Shah on NCP.

The BJP can form an alliance with its estranged partner Shiv Sena or take NCP support.

According to the latest trends, BJP is emerging winners in 122 seats.

If BJP gets the chance to form government in Maharashtra, its state chief Devendra Fadnavis could be the Chief Minister.  Fadnavis himself won from Nagpur South and is seen as a front runner for the post.

Despite a bitter pre-poll war of words, Fadnavis said "the Shiv Sena is not our opponent, they will always be friends."

In Maharashtra all previous alliance partners- BJP and Shiv Sena  of NDA and Congress and NCP of UPA- fought elections individually after failing to forge pre-poll tie-up.
