Guwahati/UNI: Amidst the despair caused by the annual floods in Kaziranga National Park (KNP), birth of an elephant calf has brought some reason to rejoice.

A Forest department elephant, Rukmini, gave birth to the male calf this morning, the KNP authorities informed through their official Twitter handle.

The Tweet mentioned: “New Addition to our family. Our Rukmini (departmental elephant) has given birth to a male baby (calf) at 6 AM today. Both Rukmini and baby are in good health condition as per our Vet.”

The naming ceremony will happen soon, the Tweet added.

As many as 108 animals have been killed in floods in KNP this year so far, while 134 animals have been rescued.
