Malyali nurses union demands apology against order barring conversation in Malyalam in Delhi's GIPMER
Delhi/IBNS: The Malyali nurses union in Delhi has demanded a written apology and "serious action" against those responsible for issuing a circular in Govind Ballabh Pant Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (GIPMER) barring nurses from speaking in Malayalam and only use English or Hindi, media reports said.
"It was really shocking for us. We feel that it is a threat to our linguistic freedom. We need an apology from the concerned person as they have humiliated the whole state," Fameer CK, representative of Delhi Action Committee of Malayali Nurses told ANI.
On June 5, Delhi government-run GIPMER issued a circular barring nurses from conversing in Malayalam and using only Hindi or English for conversation.
Fameer, further, criticised the issuing of the notice without the permission of the hospital authority and demanded "serious action" for the "misconduct", the report added.
"If the administration is saying that they did not have any information, then the matter gets much more serious. It should be treated as misconduct and serious action should be taken if a person is who is not concerned to issue a letter and is doing so on official letterhead," he told ANI.
Fameer said that the Action Committee has decided to continue with their agitation until a written apology is given by the concerned department.
"Also Delhi government should take strict action against the Nursing Superintendent, GB Pant Hospital," the nurse union representative added.
Govind Ballabh Pant Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (GIPMER) Medical Director Dr Anil Agarwal said today that the order has been revoked, according to the report.
"This circular dated June 5, 2021, which was issued by Nursing Superintendent, GB Pant Hospital without any instructions or knowledge of the Hospital Administration and Delhi Government stands withdrawn with immediate effect," read the new circular issued by Medical Superintendent, GB Pant Institute today.
