Mamata Banerjee remembers Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary
New Delhi, May 21 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday remembered former Indian PM Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary.
" Solemnly and very fondly remembering former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary," Mamata Banerjee tweeted.
Rajiv Gandhi became the Prime Minister of the country in 1984 following the death of his mother and immediate predecessor Indira Gandhi.
He was the youngest Prime Minister of the country at an age of 40.

He held his office till 1989. In 1991, while he was campaigning for the Congress party ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated in Madras (now Chennai).
A woman, who was later identified as Thenmozhi Rajaratnam, bent down to touch his feet during the campaign when she detonated the RDX explosives which was kept under her dress.
Along with the former Prime Minister, 25 people were killed in the explosion.
