Mamata Banerjee slams Centre over not declaring Netaji's birthday as national holiday
Kolkata, Jan 23 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday slammed the Centre for not declaring Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's birthday as a national holiday.
"Even today Netaji has not got his due. The Bengal Government has given January 23 and January 12 as holidays, but the Centre has not. Can’t we give them even this much respect?," Banerjee said during a birthday celebration event of the freedom fighter in Kolkata.
Subhas Utsab was celebrated across West Bengal to commemorate the 121st birth anniversary pf the freedom fighter.
President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid tributes to prominent Indian freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on the latter's birth anniversary.
"On his birthday, I offer my tributes to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. He remains one of our most beloved national heroes and an icon of India's freedom struggle #PresidentKovind," President Kovind's tweet read.
Prime Minister Modi said, "The valour of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose makes every Indian proud. We bow to this great personality on his Jayanti."
