Man assaulted on suspicion of being COVID-19 patient, succumbs in Thane

Thane/UNI: A 34-year-old man was brutally assaulted on suspicion of being a COVID-19 patient, subsequently, the injured fell into a sewage and died, police said on Friday.

The victim has been identified as Ganesh Gupta.

According to the Khadakpada police, the abhorrent mishap occurred on Wednesday morning when Ganesh went for making some purchases.

Upon seeing the patrolling police, the victim took a detour thinking he would be questioned for stepping out.

He was suspected to be a pandemic patient since he was coughing hence the accused assaulted him after which he fell into a sewage and died.

The body has been sent for a post-mortem and a case of accidental death has been filed, apprised police.
