Man missing for weeks walks into his own funeral in Gujarat
Mehsana (Gujarat): A family in Gujarat was left stunned after the man they were mourning walked into his own remembrance prayer meeting, alive and well.
Forty-three-year-old Brijesh Suthar, who had gone missing from his home in Naroda on October 27, had been presumed dead after a decomposed body found near the Sabarmati bridge on November 10 was mistakenly identified as his.
Police had called his family to identify the body, and due to its resemblance in physique, they believed it was Brijesh.
Reports said Suthar had been dealing with mental health challenges and financial stress before his disappearance.
Following the cremation of the body, the family held a prayer meet on Friday when Brijesh walked in, shocking his grieving relatives and local authorities.
"We looked everywhere for him. His phone was switched off. When police showed us the body, it was swollen. We misidentified it and performed the cremation," said Brijesh's mother.
A relative added that he had been suffering from depression.
The incident has left the police with a perplexing question—whose body was cremated?
Investigations are underway to determine the identity of the deceased.
Meanwhile, Brijesh's family grapples to get to terms with the surreal turn of events while the circumstances surrounding his disappearance remain unclear.
