Maths also required to fix economy: Congress trolls Piyush Goyal for his 'Einstein' remark

New Delhi: The Congress trolled Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal for his remark where he said Mathematics did not help Albert Einstein to discover the force of gravity, stating maths is also required to fix the economy.

While speaking about the falling economy, Goyal on Thursday said, "Don't get into the calculations that you see on television..... Don't get into those maths. Those maths had never helped Einstein discover gravity..."

However, the force of gravity was actually discovered by Isaac Newton.

Trolling the Union Minister, the Congress has put up a tweet which reads, "Former Finance Minister @PiyushGoyal is correct, Einstein did not require maths to discover gravity, but Sir Isaac Newton did. FYI, maths is also required to #FixTheEconomy."

Earlier Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was trolled for holding the mindset of millennials responsible for the falling economy days after the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) touched a new low at 5 per cent in the first quarter of fiscal year 2019-2020.

"There are a number of factors behind the falling economy. One of the factors is that the millennials prefer ola and uber (app-based cabs) over EMIs to buy cars," the Finance Minister had said.

Following the comment, several millennials had started #BoycottMillennials on Twitter and made sarcastic replies to Sitharaman's comment.

Slamming Sitharaman, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said, "What India needs isn’t propaganda, manipulated news cycles & foolish theories about millennials, but a concrete plan to #FixTheEconomy that we can all get behind. Acknowledging that we have a problem is a good place to start."
