Mayawati stands with Mamata against EC's decision
Lucknow, May 16 (UNI): Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP) supremo Mayawati hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP for violence in Kolkata during the road show of Amit Shah on Tuesday and raised questioned over the Election Commission's order cutting short campaigning in West Bengal by 19 hours.
"The BJP and RSS were responsible for the violence in Kolkata just to divert people's attention from the failure of the central government," she said, while adding that the PM had been targeting the Mamata Banerjee government for a long time.
In a statement here on Thursday, Mayawati said that the entire country knows the reality of the violent incidents in West Bengal and how BJP was trying to create disturbances there.
"BJP tried to create similar things in Uttar Pradesh as well but we were cautious and prevented it," she said.
The BSP president slammed the EC for its role and ending the campaigning in West Bengal on Thursday night asking why it was waiting for the PM to complete his public meetings.
"This time the EC has failed to hold a free and fair polls in the country and it seems that a political party was dictating its order," she said.
