Agartala/UNI: Over 5000 teams have started a health survey this morning to identify persons with influenza-like illnesses, including breathing difficulties, to detect potential Covid cases in Tripura, as a strategy to fight the worsening pandemic situation.

The teams will visit all homes in the containment areas and other vulnerable locations across the state in the next three days.

The state government has announced lockdown during this period to ensure uninterrupted door-to-door health survey to locate people, who have contracted the disease, or , are under high risk, a senior health official said.

The mega drive for tracing Covid-19 symptoms is being carried out by health professionals, including ASHA workers, and Anganwadi workers.

Teams of four members have been formed to conduct the survey. Each team will cover 40 households in a day, the official said.

The ground level teams, he said, will directly report to supervising officers. The supervising officers will report to the district level officers, specially engaged for the job, he added.

A one-time incentive of Rs 1,000 will be given to each worker engaged in the job. The teams will visit all the households that fall under their jurisdiction and record Covid-19 related symptoms.

Individuals with breathing discomfort, cold or cough etc in the last 10 days or travel history, would be taken to the nearest testing centre at 138 PHCs, CHCs and Sub-division and District level hospitals. Besides these, about 200 additional Covid testing facilities at village level have been set up for this purpose.

Meanwhile, to make the lockdown successful about 13,000 men cops have been deployed since last night in all the localities.

The state government warned the citizens not to come out from their houses.

Only government employees and a small number of other service providers are allowed to go out for work.

The police have been empowered to take action against the lockdown violators.

According to exemptions given in the chief secretary's order on lockdown, shops selling grocery, milk, baby food, medicines and optical items will remain open while sale of essential items like fish, vegetables will also be allowed.

But delivery of fish and vegetables at the doorstep will be preferred, provided social distancing is ensured.

Sale of essential items will also be permissible.

Tripura has recorded 3919 Covid cases so far with 13 deaths and 1526 active cases.
