Kolkata/IBNS: Missionaries of Charity, which was established by late Nobel Peace laureate Mother Teresa as a Catholic religious congregation in 1950, has got its new Superior General after 13 years, media reports said.

Sister Joseph assumed the post on Saturday replacing Sister Prema who was at the helm for the last 13 years.

"The decision was taken on Saturday night and Sister Joseph is the new Superior General," said Sunita Kumar, Missionaries of Charity spokesperson, as quoted by The Telegraph.

Earlier Sister Joseph was the Regional Superior General of the Missionaries of Charity in Kerala, Kumar added.

Sister Joseph is the third Superior General in Missionaries of Charity, which is now a Catholic Church, since the death of Mother Teresa.

After Mother Teresa, Sister Nirmala was the Superior General who was succeeded by Sister Prema in 2009.
