Guwahati/IBNS: Hitting out at the BJP and the Centre over transfer of Justice S Murulidhar, former Assam Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Tarun Gogoi on Thursday said that the Narendra Modi government interferes the judiciary and that is a dangerous signal for the whole country.

“It also mounts to an undeclared emergency. Today the whole country is facing a great challenge and the challenge coming from the present ruler who wants to impose his will. His philosophy is against the vast majority of the people,” Tarun Gogoi said.

The senior Congress leader also said that: “The Modi government has not allowed the judiciary to function independently which is dangerous for the democracy. Our constitution provides the independence of judiciary. The independence of judiciary is the key and without it democracy will be at peril.”

“They got the mandate, but it doesn’t mean that 100 percent people supported them. They got less than 40 percent of vote. Majority people are not for Modi,” Gogoi said.

On the other hand, the former Assam Chief Minister said that,  Law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad plays at the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“It is his duty to give advice to the Prime Minister because he being the Law Minister and lawyer knows the Constitutional provisions. It is his responsibility to explain to the Prime Minister about the real value of the Constitution,” Tarun Gogoi said.

Reacting over Delhi violence, Tarun Gogoi said that, the Modi government is miserably failed to contain the violence.

“The forces which are responsible for creating such violence are not controlled and allowed to exploit the situation. The government is failed to maintain law and order, provide security to the all sections, communities of people,” Gogoi said.

He further said that, those people who made inflammatory speeches leading to such violences, should be dealt with firmly.

Tarun Gogoi claimed that, riots, communal clashes have risen in the country during the tenure of Modi government.

“Today, the followers of (Nathuram) Godse are on the increase. The entire country is now disturbed. We have celebrated the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, but instead of following the path Mahatma Gandhi, bringing more peace, social harmony, we are going towards Godse philosophy,” Tarun Gogoi said.
