Modi was 'arrogant', Amit Shah said PM 'lost his mind': Meghalaya Guv Satya Pal's startling claim

New Delhi/IBNS: In a startling claim, Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik has said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was "very arrogant" when he went to talk to the latter over farmers' protest besides claiming Union Home Minister Amit Shah had almost called the most popular leader mad.

In a press conference, Malik said as quoted by NDTV, "He (the PM) was very arrogant. When I told him that 500 of our own farmers had died, he asked, 'Did they die for me?'"

"I told him yes, since you are the king. Anyway, I ended up having a fight with him. He told me to meet Amit Shah and so I did," he added.

Sharing the video on Twitter, senior Congress MP Mallikarjun Kharge asked the Prime Minister whether Malik's claim was true.

Kharge tweeted, "Meghalaya’s Governor Sri. Satya Pal Malik is on record saying PM was 'arrogant' on the issue of Farmers & HM Amit Shah called the PM as ‘mad’ Constitutional authorities speaking about each other with such contempt! @narendramodi ji is this true?"

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has put up a tweet which reads, "‘Did the farmers DIE FOR ME?’ PM @narendramodi, pity that you mock the farmers’ death. Innocents suffered due to YOUR inaction & self-serving policies. Yet YOU arrogantly INSULT them. This just proves that #FarmLaws repeal was a SHAM. Mr Modi, YOU ARE GUILTY."

Malik, a former Jammu and Kashmir Governor, has been taking swipes at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on farmers' issues.

The Governor had also said he was not scared of being asked to step down.

In a national address in November 2021, Modi apologised to the country and announced the withdrawal of three farm laws that had triggered massive farmers' protests around Delhi.
