Bangladesh Interim Government head Muhammad Yunus on Friday assured Indian PM Narendra Modi that the safety and security of Hindu community members and other minorities will be ensured.

During their telephone conversation, Modi reaffirmed India's support for a democratic, stable, peaceful and progressive Bangladesh.

He emphasised India's commitment to supporting the people of Bangladesh through various development initiatives.

Modi also underlined the importance of ensuring the safety and protection of Hindus and all other minority communities in Bangladesh.

"Yunus, in turn, assured that the Interim Government would prioritise protection, safety and security of Hindus and all minority groups in Bangladesh," the Indian government released statement said.

Following the conversation, Modi posted on X: "Received a telephone call from Professor Muhammad Yunus, @ChiefAdviserGoB . Exchanged views on the prevailing situation. Reiterated India's support for a democratic, stable, peaceful and progressive Bangladesh. He assured protection, safety and security of Hindus and all minorities in Bangladesh."

Several Hindu houses and temples were targeted by radicals during the recent violence in Bangladesh which led to the fall of former PM Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government.

Visuals of the alleged attack on Hindu homes and shops were circulating on the social media since the toppling of Hasina regime.

Hindus have been demonstrating in different corners of the globe demanding security for the community in Bangladesh in the wake of the recent attacks.
