Nagaland launches National Immunisation Day

Kohima, Mar 10 (UNI) Joining with the rest of the country, Nagaland has also launched the first round of National Immunisation Day (NID) today with Polio Vaccination at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK).

Addressing at the launching programme Dr. Thorhusie Katiry, Managing Director of NHAK stated that India has remained free of wild polio cases since January 2011 and India’s WM progress against polio has led to certification of south east region including India by World Health Organisation in March 2014. India remains at high risk of impanation till the whole world is free of wild polio virus.


As per the recommendations of the India Expert Advisory Group (IEAG) on Polio MD: are to be conducted covering all the children in the age group 0-5 years of age using Bivalent Oral Poliovirus Vaccine. He stated that the department of health and family welfare has geared up to administer polio drop to over 1.5 lakh eligible children from 0-5 years throughout the state in 2274 polio booths to be manned by 9096 health personnel and 445 supervisors along with vaccines and other logistics.

The Department stated that special focus would be given to migrant population with an aim to prevent importation of polio cases. The Department has appealed to all sections of the people, agencies (Government, non-government including security forces and police), organisations, churches and community leaders and especially parents of children below 5 years to come forward and ensure that all eligible children receive “two drops of life” (polio drops) on March 10, today.

Principal Secretary Health and Family Welfare Himato Zhimomi administered the First Drop of Polio on National Immunisation Day during the launching programme today held at NHAK. During the launching programme of NID, Measles Rubella Vaccination campaign was also facilitated to various departments.
