Naqvi condemns BJP youth member's eleven-lakh bounty on Mamata Banerjee

New Delhi, Apr 12 (IBNS) : Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Wednesday condemned a BJP youth wing member's announcement of a Rs. 11 lakh bounty on the head of West Bengal hief Minister Mamata Banerjee, saying the state Government is at liberty to take proper action, reports said.

The Minister's statement in Parliament came amid a high controversy after Yogesh Varshney, member of BJP's youth wing Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha,  threatened  Banerjee, announcing an "11 lakh rupee reward" for her head.

The call was given in the wake of Hanuman Jayanti clashes in Birbhum, some 180 km from state capital Kolkata.

"I condemn this type of statement. The state Government can take proper action," Naqvi said.

Earlier it was reported that police had stopped a procession celebrating Hanuman Jayanti and even resorted to lathi charge when the crowd didn't disperse.

Varshney also equated Banerjee with a demon.

Meanwhile, the BJP has come under severe criticism from the opposition, following their Ram Navami celebrations in West Bengal, where its open display of swords were deemed repulsive to Bengali culture.

The Bengal Chief Minister was quoted as saying by NDTV, "Some BJP leaders who do not know the culture of Bengal are flashing swords on the streets to intimidate people."
