New era for Congress, Rahul Gandhi to take charge as President today

| @indiablooms | Dec 16, 2017, at 03:53 pm

New Delhi, Dec 16 (IBNS): A 19-year old leadership provided by Sonia Gandhi to the Congress will end on Saturday with scion Rahul Gandhi taking charge as the President shifting the country's oldest political party into a new era.

Rahul has been elected as the President unopposed by the Congress party. He will replace his mother Sonia, who assumed the post in 1998.

Sonia was the longest serving party President of the Congress.

Rahul, a Congress MP, became the party Vice President in 2013.

Though Rahul has lost a number of state elections being the VP of the party, he is looking forward to the results of the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh elections.

The Congress President-elect campaigned hard for the Congress party to end the 22 years of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rule in Gujarat.

The Gujarat election as well as the 2019 General Election are considered to be the acid tests for Rahul as the Congress President since he was repeatedly criticised for his incompetency as a leader in the past.

Rahul will take charge as the President in presence of several party leaders.
