New farm laws will allow farmers to sell their productions in their own terms: PM Modi

New Delhi/IBNS: Amid the farmers' protests across the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said new farm laws will only allow peasants to sell their productions in their own terms.

Addressing people of Bihar while laying the foundation of nine highway projects virtually, Modi said, "The existing law has kept the farmers with their hands tied. The new laws will give them freedom to sell their productions in their own terms.

"The law amendment is not against the Krishi Mandy. Whoever is saying the Krishi Mundy will cease to exist is lying," said the PM.

Eight opposition Rajya Sabha MPs were on Monday suspended for their "unruly behaviour" while protesting against the passing of two key farm bills by the government in Parliament's upper house a day ago.

The eight MPs, who have been suspended by Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu for a week, were Trinamool Congress (TMC)'s Derek O'Brien and Dola Sen, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)'s Sanjay Singh, Congress' Rajeev Satav, Syed Nasir Hussain and Ripun Borah and CPI-M's KK Ragesh and Elamaram Kareem.

The two farm bills, which has created a flashpoint between the BJP and the Opposition, was passed with voice votes on Sunday while the rival MPs claim the ruling dispensation did not have the required number in the Rajya Sabha.

In a direct attack on the Congress over the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) Act, Modi on Friday said people who ruled the country for decades were misleading farmers.

He said, "People, who have remained in power for decades, are trying to mislead farmers. They are lying to farmers. For political reasons during the polls, they had promised the same thing in their own manifesto but forgot after the elections.

"When BJP is going to fulfill the same promise by amending the APMC Act, they are misleading farmers to play politics."

"It is only the BJP-led NDA government that fulfilled the promises of farmers. Now they (Congress) are saying farmers won't get the Minimum Support Price (MSP). This is also a complete lie and a betrayal to farmers. We will continue to remain committed to ensuring the correct price to the farmers for their production. Now farmers will be able to sell their productions to anywhere and get desirable prices," he added.

With the amendment to the Act, farmers will now be able to sell their production anywhere.
