Panaji/UNI: Goa police have made elaborate security arrangements in the state ahead of the new year celebrations in the state, a senior police official said.

Speaking to reporters in the city, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Paramaditya said, ''Elaborate police arrangements have been planned. Police Superintendents of North Goa and South Goa have been instructed to ensure police presence and their visibility. They have planned detailed police scheme. They will ensure police presence beat wise, area wise.''

The police officer said all police officers, including beat officers, had been instructed to ensure that they remained present in their areas and ensured safety and security of citizen and tourists.

He said advisory had been issued for traffic and police officers instructed that there should not be traffic jam at main roads and artery roads.
''We had instructed to ensure that there is no drunk and drive and if somebody found then there should be legal action. Parking areas should be clear so that tourists visiting the state do not face trouble,'' he said.

Parmaditya said Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the State Police had been instructed to ensure deployment of ANC staff in coastal belts so that there were no anti-tourist activities.

Special branch also had been instructed to ensure deployment of adequate staff to keep a tab on the footfall of tourists and pass on intelligence so that quick action could be taken in case of untoward incident.

''We have deployed a round-the-clock officer at Control Room so that there is response in minimum time possible in case there is a call on 100,'' he said.
The officer said in coastal areas meetings had been conducted and Indian Reserve Police (IRB) and General Reserve Police (GRP) personnel had been deployed in those areas.

He said safety and security of women was top priority of the police force.

Meanwhile, a advisory issued by the police said elaborate traffic arrangements had been made by Traffic Police at all the major towns of the state, specially along the coastal belt.

''All motorists are requested to drive/ride safely and responsibly. Those found driving under the influence of alcohol will be dealt strictly as per law. All motorists are requested to co-operate and assist Traffic Police in making New Year Celebration incident free,'' it added.
