Newly-elected Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla calls on Vice President

New Delhi, Jun 19 (IBNS): The newly-elected Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Om Birla, called on Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, who is also the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, at the latter’s residence, here on Wednesday.

Congratulating Birla on his election, the Vice President expressed confidence that having wide experience in public life.

"He would strive towards strengthening Parliamentary democracy in the country by upholding the best Parliamentary practices and traditions," Naidu said.

Om Birla was unanimously elected as the Speaker of the 17th Lok Sabha with his name being proposed by Prime Minister Modi and others.
