Hoshiarpur, Jul 24 (UNI) No action has been taken yet against the printing press owner who allegedly printed Nirbhaya rape convict’s photo on voter awareness flex hoarding despite Deputy Commissioner's order.

Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer Isha Kalia on Wednesday said that she had handed over the investigation to Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Harpreet Singh Sudan after the matter of Nirbhaya rape convict Mukesh Singh’s photo on election awareness flex hoarding, was brought in her notice.
The investigation revealed that during the recent Lok Sabha elections various types of flex hoardings were prepared by the election office under SVEEP.

In one of the flex hoarding, photograph of a woman, a transgender and a man had to be printed, in which the printing press had put the photo of Nirbhaya rape convict after the verbal confirmation of the officer concerned. She clarified that names of these three persons were neither included nor appointed as brand ambassadors.

It further came to light that the photograph of Mukesh Singh was not deliberately printed on flex hoarding by the printing press. It was due to carelessness of the printing press and concerned officers of the election department as they were not aware of the identification of the person whose photo was to be used on the flex hoarding.

She had recommended to the Punjab Chief Election Officer for departmental action against the concerned officials of the election department.

She said that in future any poster or banner would not be printed without the approval from any senior official.
