New Delhi/IBNS: The Delhi Police has said no mosque was vandalised in the national capital Delhi's Ashok Vihar area.

The police made the comment at a time when a  video has gone viral on the social media where a mosque could be seen vanadalised by a group of people.

Police asked people not to spread false information.

DCP North West Delhi issued a statement which was quoted as saying by Times Now, "Some false information/news item has been circulating regarding damage to a mosque in Ashok Vihar area. It is to clarify that no such incident has taken place in the area of Ashok Vihar. Please do not spread false information."

The advisory from police has come after a video purportedly showing some vandals climbing atop a mosque's minaret and planting a Hanuman flag on it went viral on social media, reported the news channel.

However some anti-right wing media reported that the mosque in question is in Ashok Nagar as against Ashok Vihar reported earlier. IBNS refrains from posting the video which is now viral.

The death toll in the ongoing violence over the new citizenship law touched 17 on Wednesday.
