Bhubaneswar/UNI: The Security forces have recovered huge quantities of live ammunition, empty cartridges and camp articles from four Naxal camps in a row during anti-Naxal operation in Gandhamardan Reserve Forest in Bolangir District.

DGP office sources said the Maoists, however, managed to escape, taking advantage of the dense forest and heavy rainfall during the exchange of fire that took place yesterday between Special Operation Group (SOG) and the CPI (Maoists).

The articles recovered  from the site included four Insas empty case, 3 AK 47 empty case, 2 empty .303 empty case, 2 SLR empty cases, Hand written Hindi and Odia literature relating to Naxal ideology, plastic jerkin, plastic bucket, mosquito net, steel jug, water filter, bags, clothes, umbrella, medicines.

Acting  on a tip off about the red rebels camping in the forest and planning violent anti-state activities, the SOG teams of Bargarh- Bolangir along with CRPF platoons started joint Anti-Naxal operation in the area.

At around 7:30 AM yesterday the SOG team saw the movement of a group of 10-15 Maoists in olive green dress and long barrel weapons.

Suddenly, the Maoists started indiscriminate firing upon the team which took defensive position and appealed to them to stop firing and surrender.

Finding no alternative, the SOG team resorted to firing in self-defense.

The exchange of fire continued for 30 minutes. The Naxal group could manage to escape taking advantage of dense forest and heavy rainfall.

During the search operation the SOG team found four naxal camps in a row and recovered live ammunition, empty cartridges and camp articles from the spot.

Further combing and search operation with additional teams is continuing in the core area to find out  any possible Maoist hideouts.
