Omar Abdullah slams security agency over Panchkula violence

| | Aug 26, 2017, at 02:50 am
Srinagar, Aug 25 (IBNS): Former Jammu and Kashmir National Chief Minister and National Conference president Omar Abdullah on Friday questioned the role of security forces while handling the law and order situation in parts of Haryana following the conviction of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh by a special CBI court in connection with a rape case on Friday.

"Chilli bombs? Pepper grenades? Pellet guns? Do the forces keep those only for protesting Kashmiris?" Omar wrote on Twitter while taking a dig on the law enforcing agencies.

While expressing surprise over the statement made by a senior security forces official about the situation in the affected areas, Omar tweeted: "Seems all the visuals of violence are just fake news."

"These guys have everything under control. OB vans are self-inflicting damage!" the former Chief Minister said.

At least 28 people were killed as violence hit Panchkula city in Haryana on Friday following the conviction of Dera Sacha chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh by a CBI court for the rape of two women.

The violence has left several others injured.

After the conviction of the self-styled spiritual leader, his followers went on a rampage as they attacked police, journalists and even destroyed vehicles.

Several OB vans were also damaged by the attackers.
