One more terrorist killed in encounter as firing resumes in J & k's Poonch

Poonch, Sept 12 (IBNS) : One more terrorist was gunned down in encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch on Monday as firing resumed a day after three ultras and a policeman were killed in a day-long gun battle, reports said.

The total number of terrorists killed is four in Poonch and eight in the state over the past two days.

Reports said the encounter in Poonch is still underway.

Altogether seven terrorists were killed in the state on Sunday  in four separate encounters, including the one near the Line of Control in Nowgam sector in north Kashmir, where the Army  gunned down four,  believed to be Pakistanis.

Encounters had taken place also in Tangdhar and Gurez sectors, where forces foiled infiltration attempt.

The three terrorists killed in Poonch  had been holed up inside an under-construction government building close to an army camp.

One policeman also died and another was injured.

An elderly couple who had been taken hostage were  rescued after the day-long operation.

In the Nowgam Sector four AK-47 rifles and a large cache of ammunition were recovered at the end of the encounter that started as the Army engaged in a gun battle heavily armed terrorists trying to infiltrate from across the border.

During joint raids at Pulwama's Kairmabaf village, 25 people were injured in clashes with security forces.

In the evening, Home Minister Rajnath Singh chaired a high-level meeting with top officials, including National Securit Advisor Ajit Doal to review the situation in J & K which has witnessed the death of nearly 80 persons over a period of two months.
