Pakistan 'decided' to stop running of Samjhauta Express, India denies claim

New Delhi, Aug 8 (IBNS): After downgrading the trade relations with India, Pakistan on Thursday said it has stopped the running of Samjhauta Express which is used to connect the two countries via railway tracks.

Pakistan Railway Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad took to Twitter to say, "We have decided to close the compromised express"

"Modi's politics will end in Lal Chowk Srinagar, as long as I am the Railway Minister, the Samjhauta Express cannot run," he added.

However, Deepak Kumar, CPRO, Northern Railways, said the Pakistan authorities had raised an issue over the security of the train's crew and guard.

Kumar has been quoted by Times Now, "We have told them that situation this side is perfectly normal. The train is standing in the Wagah side which has around 110 passengers & our engine has also left from Attari. We'll bring the train from Wagah to Attari. 70 passengers are waiting here who will travel to Pak. So to say that the train has been cancelled is not right."

Just a day after the Indian government took major steps in Kashmir like revoking Article 370 of the Constitution which withdrew the special status given to Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the state into two Union Territories, Pakistan on Wednesday expelled Indian High Commissioner Ajay Bisaria apart from downgrading trade relations.

Accusing Pakistan of presenting an alarmist picture of the bilateral ties between the two nations, India has urged Islamabad to review its decision.
