Pakistan govt's unilateral decision of taking control of Kartarpur Sahib Corridor highly condemnable: India

New Delhi/IBNS: India on Friday lodged a strong protest with Pakistan after the Imran Khan government officially took over full control of the Gurudwara Darbar Sahib at Kartarpur in Punjab province's Narowal district.

The Indian government condemned the "unilateral decision" by Pakistan and called the same against the spirit of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor.

Addressing a virtual media briefing, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said: "Today evening, the CDA of the Pakistan High Commission was summoned and our strong protest was conveyed.  It was also conveyed to him that this unilateral decision by Pakistan is highly condemnable and runs against the spirit of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor as also the religious sentiments of the Sikh community at large."

Srivastava said the Indian government received representations from the Sikh community expressing "grave concern at this decision by Pakistan targeting the rights of the minority Sikh community in Pakistan."

"Pakistan is called upon to reverse its arbitrary decision to deprive the Sikh minority community it’s right to manage affairs of the Holy Gurudwara Kartarpur Sahib," he said.

This was for the first time that Pakistan’s Sikh Gurudwara Prabhandhak Committee has lost management rights of the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib.

The move comes just ahead of Pakistan's Sikh Gurudwara Prabhandhak Committee (PSGPC)'s plan to organise the first anniversary of the Kartarpur Gurudwara opening on Nov 9.
