Chennai, Feb 15 (IBNS): A team led by Edappadi Palanisamy, who was selected by VK Sasikala as her successor, on Wednesday evening met Tamil Nadu Governor C Vidyasagar Rao to request him to invite the faction to form the government in the state on Thursday.

Tamil Nadu's caretaker Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, who resigned from his post to pave the way for Sasikala, too met the governor and has staked claim to the top post.

Meanwhile, VK Sasikala reached a Bengaluru prison on Wednesday evening where she will spend the jail term of four years.

AIADMK leader VK Sasikala, who was all geared up to take over as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu and don the mantle of late J Jayalalithaa, has been convicted by the Supreme Court in corruption cases dating back to 1990s, ending her campaign for the coveted post.

The Supreme Court refused to entertain Sasikala's plea seeking more time to surrender for undergoing jail term in the disproportionate assets case.
