People of Bengal want 'Ashol Poriborton' : PM Modi in Kolkata's Brigade rally

Kolkata/IBNS: Addressing a mega rally in Kolkata's iconic Brigade Parade Grounds, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday attacked the previous regimes in West Bengal saying that the state was left behind in industrial development due to the culture of strikes and bandhs encouraged by them.

"The huge number of brothers and sisters assembled here are proof that now the people want 'ashol poriborton' (real development). I will tell you what ashol poriborton means. It means a Bengal where the youth would get education and employment, they wouldn't need to leave for employment to other states, investments would come, massive industrialisation would take place, 21st century infrastructure would be developed, even the poorest of the poor would have access to growth opportunities, development projects would be conceived and implemented with focus on 'sabka saath, sabka vikas, sabka vishwas,'" Modi said while asserting that the people of West Bengal are fed up of the ruling Trinamool Congress and eager to replace it with BJP rule.

He then called on the gathering to repeat after him "ar noy ar noy" (no more no more) to "syndicate", "cut money", "corruption", "tola baji "(extortion), to which he received maassive response from the crowd.

"I ask you Didi (Mamata), the masses chose you as their elder sister but why did you limit yourself to becoming the aunt of only one nephew, to fulfill his greed?" Modi asked, lambasting Mamata Banerjee for allegedly favouring her nephew and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee, which is also reportedly the cause of dissatisfaction among her trusted lieutenants.

The BJP government will resinstate transperency in government recruitments, Modi said, accusing the TMC regime of destroying the democratic process by which eligible candidates are selected for various state government posts.

"We will restore people's faith in governance and ensure recruitments to government posts are done through transparent process and implement the Central skill development schemes with honesty," the PM said.

He reiterated on bringing back the glorious days of Bengal.

"Friends, Kolkata is the birth place of Arobindo Ghosh, Swami Vivekanada, residence of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. It is the native place of Syama Prasad Mukerjee, who fought for one nation, for India's unity," he said.

"Please mark my words when I say this...whatever has been snatched away from Bengal we will get those back," he thundered amid roaring applause from the crowd.

"We will work day and night 24 hours to serve you, to set the path for development...the next 25 years are crucial. The next five years will ensure the development for the the next 25 years. When the country will celebrate 100 years of independence, Bengal will once again lead the country," he asserted.

"When you vote in the upcoming elections, do not think you are voting for your state alone. I urge you to think about the role West Bengal has to play in the next 25 years," he stated.

"Bengal has sea, ports, tourism and massive resources for devlopement. Kolkata is city of joy, there is no reason that it cannot be the 'city of the future,'" he added.

"Tola baji and syndicates, commission culture have prevented industries from coming to Bengal. There are many projects related to the Kolkata airport, but those cannot take off due to this syndicate culture," he said.

Speaking in Bengali, Modi said, "I call upon you to abandon fear and vote for BJP...'Bhoy paben na bhaoy paben na.. nirbhoy BJP ke vote din.'"
