Indore, Sept 14 (IBNS): In an outreach to the Muslim community in Madhya Pradesh, where state elections are due at the end of the year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday addressed the Bohra Community and spoke about the country's unity.
Modi was present at Indore's Saifee Mosque to attend the commemoration of the martyrdom of Imam Husain, media report said.
He said: "We consider the entire world as a family. We are people who believe in the unity of people. This characteristic makes us unique and different from other countries."
The Prime Minister seized the opportunity to pitch in the developmental works by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government.
Ayushman Bharat, Swachh Bharat and Goods and Services Tax (GST) featured in Modi's speech.
Modi said: "Through GST, insolvency and bankruptcy code, honest traders have been encouraged."
"Four years ago, only 40% of houses had toilet. Now around 90% of houses are having toilet."
He added, "May be the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was started by the government but the mission is now bring carried forward by 125 crore people."
This is Modi's second major visit to an event organised by the Muslim community. Earlier in 2016, the Prime Minister had attended the World Islamic Sufi Conference in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
Praising the Bohra community on Friday, the Prime Minister said as he has been quoted by The Indian Express, "My relationship with the Bohra community is an old one. It is my good fortune that I have received the affection of the Bohra community. There is hardly any village in Gujarat where a Bohra trader cannot be found.
"The community assisted me during my tenure as Gujarat’s chief minister. It is a sheer affection of you people that has brought me here today.”
Modi was accompanied by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
