Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid a visit to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) founding member LK Advani on the latter's 95th birthday.

Modi was accompanied by Defence Minister and BJP veteran Rajnath Singh while paying the visit.

The Prime Minister wrote on Twitter, "Went to Advani Ji’s residence and wished him on his birthday. His contribution to India’s growth is monumental.

"He is respected all across India for his vision and intellect. His role in building and strengthening the BJP is unparalleled. I pray for his long and healthy life."

Advani, who was the BJP's face in its Hindutva politics in the 1990s, has remained the country's seventh Deputy Prime Minister.

The BJP veteran, who is known to be close to Modi, has remained the party president in three phases.
