PM Modi congratulates Maldives President Solih for taking oath

New Delhi, Nov 17 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for taking oath.

Modi tweeted, "Congratulations to Mr. @ibusolih on taking oath as the President of the Maldives. Wishing him the very best for his tenure ahead. Looking forward to working with him to strengthen bilateral relations between our nations."

Solih defeated strongman Abdulla Yameen in September polls.

This is the first visit of Modi to the island nation as the Prime Minister of India.

Modi attended the oath-taking ceremony shortly after reaching the nation.
